MetroPCS is the newest carrier to launch a new smartphone on their network. The LG Esteem will be available now and is similar to the LG Revolution that was launched by Verizon recently.
The LG Esteem has support for 4G LTE network and runs on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS right out of the box. Put that together with some nice features and a price tag of around $349 with $100 mail-in rebate available through the rest of this year, and you have another nice smartphone option available from MetroPCS.
Taking a look at some of the features, first you cannot miss the larger than average 4.3-inch WVGA display that is protected by the popular Gorilla Glass. The phone is average in overall size when compared to other 4G phones, but does weigh about 2 more ounces than similar phones on the market.
The phone is powered by Android and is running on a single-core processor clocked at 1GHz, with 512MB of RAM to run apps, etc. This phone also has a 3D graphics hardware accelerator built in. The camera included is a bit smaller than normal at 5MP, but does support an LED flash, auto focus, exposure control, macro mode and white balance adjustment.
The camera will capture 720p HD video for playback and the front facing camera is a nice 1.3MP which should be clear enough for video calling. The LG Esteem supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, WMA, WAV music files and most common video files for playback.
A YouTube player is also built in to make watching your favorite videos a bit more enjoyable. The included browser will support HTML and Flash websites and there are built in social media services like Facebook, Picasa and Twitter so you can stay connected and share with your friends.
Other technical specs include the shorter than average battery life, which is listed at 3.5 hours of talk time compared to the 8 hours you can find on other smartphones today. The internal memory of the phone is listed at 8GB, but can be upgraded to 32GB with the use of a microSD, or microSDHC card.
Round out the specs with typical GPS navigation all the alarms and messaging options along with connection support via Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-FI, HDMI and DLNA. Charging is via the microUSB port and this phone also supports tethering so you could use the 4G LTE speed with your laptop or other device. Check out the LG Esteem and other Metro PCS phones.
