The brand new Fusion Garage Grid10 tablet with the new GridOS.
The company behind the Joojoo tablet of 2010, which flopped pretty hard, is back again with a brand new tablet. Fusion Garage on Monday launched the Grid10 tablet which rocks a 10.1-inch HD (1366-by-768) LCD and an in-house operating system named GridOS to name a few things –GridOS is based around opensource Android but looks nothing like the Google designed operating system.
The new Grid10 tablet is available for order to U.S. residents in two 16GB variations, $499 Wi-Fi and $599 Wi-Fi+3G. At this time Fusion Garage lists that U.S. orders will ship on September 15th. If you’re outside of the U.S. Fusion Garage is allowing you to register to get notified when the Grid10 is available for international shipments.
So what the heck is the Grid10? Well if you look at the tablets technical specifications (see bottom) the Grid10 is equipped with a lot of the things that Android based tablets have, except the 1.2GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 chip and 10.1-inch screen 1366-by-768 resolution LCD. Fusion Garage really differentiates their new Grid10 from the pack with the software, GridOS.
With GridOS Fusion Garage has created an endless desktop that doesn’t scroll from right to left like standard Android, you can scroll all over the place (up-down-left-right) and your desktop contents are all contained in grids on the endless desktop. The pre-installed web browser is also something new for GridOS, the ‘Chrome less’ browser can go full screen with one tap on the screen but you can bring back utilities like tabs and other options with one swipe. Fusion Garage states that Android applications will run on the GridOS and the Grid10 but they will be offering their own application store as well.
The interface offered in GridOS is truly unique. If you’re really interested in the Grid10 and GridOS you should check out two recordings from the live demo event that took place early Monday morning below, and the Guided Tours for the Grid10 on Fusion Garage’s website www.fusiongarage.com.
